Were, Omondi recalled to Stars squad
Kenya U23 coach James Nandwa has decided to recall Harambee Stars duo of Paul Were and Kevin Omondi who were expelled from camp on Wednesday due to gross misconduct.
This comes after Kenya registered a 3-1 win over Ethiopia to reach the last eight of the ongoing Cecafa competition.
“They’ve learnt their lesson. We can’t change what they did. We have the spirit of forgiveness. If we get to the last four, they will be back on Tuesday evening. We first have to win the match then they’ll be back.”
The two were forced to go back home following their decision to break the team curfew. They apologized later for their behaviour.
This saw the Kenya squad reduced from 20 players to 18 as competition escalates in the tournament.
However, Nandwa said he was happy with the result.
“I’m happy with the outcome of this match. A defender scored, a striker scored. Technically, it worked as we wanted and that is what has delighted everyone.”
Kenya will face the winner of group C which comprises of Zanzibar, Eritrea, Malawi and Rwanda next week.
