Swallows dim Ocean Stars

Burundi edged past Somalia 5-1 in group B opening match staged at Mandela Stadium, Namboole on Sunday.

Ocean Stars penalty appeal, in the sixth minute was ignored by the referee as he waved play on as Nduwarugira Christopher brought down Mohammed Ali.

But it was Abdul Fistol who capitalized on a goalkeeping blunder that resulted for a freekick to net the first goal in the 33rd minute.

Yussuf Ndikumana worsened Somalia’s chances of a comeback as he doubled the lead four minutes into the break from a direct freekick which he curled into the top left corner.

The consolation goal for Somalia came from Jabril Hassan who scored from the spot with five minutes into the second half.

Selemani Ndikumana made it 4-1 with 79 minutes gone as Christopher Nduwarugira netted in the 83rd minute.

However, it was captain Ndikumana who completed his brace with two minutes to time to wrap up a comfortable win.
