InterClube sink in Blue Wave

Sudanese club Al Hilal bundled InterClube out of the 2012 CAF Confederation Cup after a 3-0 Group A home win in Omdurman on Friday night.

2011 semifinalists InterClube, who squandered a 1-0 lead in the first leg at home a fortnight ago against Al Hilal to finish 1-1, saw their fate in this year’s group stage competition sealed in the first half.

Ibrahima Sane put Al Hilal ahead in the 12th minute before influential midfielder Careca Mudathir made it 2-0 two minutes after the half hour mark.

Mohammad Al-Tahir made sure of the Blue Wave’s first three points after two successive draws with the third goal in the 42nd minute.

Al Hilal moved temporally to the top of Group A for at least 72 hours on eight points from four games out of a possible 12 points and are one point ahead of El Merreikh.

El Merreikh is away to El Ahly Shandy in a Group A in a Sudan derby on Sunday.

Al Hilal will be banking on El Merreikh to beat third placed Shandy who have three points from as many games played.

That scenario will leave Al Hilal needing just a home win over Shandy in their penultimate game next month to qualify to the semifinals with a game to spare.
