Busy Chelsea ready

Berekum Chelsea are arming themselves ahead of an expected tough series of group stage African Champions League games with strategic activity in the local transfer market.

The club are in the hunt to solidify problem positions in the team. AshGold's left midfielder Latif Mohammed is high on the blues' agenda, with the Berekum Chelsea said to be making an official bid in the coming days.

Also on Chelsea's radar is prolific right-back Godfred Saka of Aduana Stars. The player netted seven times in the past season and Hans Van der Pluym wants to explore that tactical option for his side as they chase continental glory.

That dream is nearing completion, according to reports, with a six-month loan move in a few days being touted by FootyGhana. According to reports, personal terms with the player have already been agreed for the player whose Aduana contract runs out in January 2013.

The road so far

The Champions League debutants have been drawn against three former champions, TP Mazembe of DR Congo and Egyptian giants Zamalek and Al Ahly. Chelsea started their campaign by going past Liberia Ship Corporate Registry FC (LISCR) before getting into the second round.

There, they went through with a 5-0 home win against Raja Casablanca and a narrow aggregate win away. The Ghanaian blues then sealed a 2-1 aggregate win over Cameroon's CotonSport Garoua in the final stage of the qualifiers. Chelsea’s qualification is the first in seven years by a Ghanaian club and this group stage (or famed money zone) earned them a $400,000 bonus from CAF.
