PSL stars to honour Selolwane
Some of the South African Premier League stars are expected to brace these shores next month to feature in Dipsy Selolwane’s benefit game scheduled for UB Stadium on July 21.
Dipsy XI will face local giants Gaborone United (GU), a team which introduced Selolwane to big-time football in the 90s. This was revealed by Selolwane when officially announcing his retirement from international football during a media briefing in Gaborone on Monday morning.
Selolwane whose contract with SuperSport United comes to an end this month has represented Botswana’s Zebras over 100 times. He is the all-time Zebras’ leading goalscorer having first played for the Zebras in 1998 against Lesotho. I have lived my dream and I feel that it is time to retire from international football.
“I have lived my dream and I retired because I wanted to. It’s something which I thought about overtime. I have consulted (different people) before coming to such a decision. I leave behind many memories which makes me proud,” said Selolwane during a press briefing.
The soft-spoken star paid tribute to all those who have supported him over the years especially his family led by mother Gertrude Selolwane. “I remain indebted to the supporters and I would like them to continue supporting the Zebras,” he said.
Some of the PSL stars which would feature for Selolwane’s side include amongst others Mamelodi Sundowns’ captain Teko Modise and teammate Tebogo Langerman, Mame Niang, Sibusiso Zuma, Thabo September (all SuperSport United) and Morgan Gould (Kaizer Chiefs).
Selowane revealed that preparations are at advanced stage with the players’ clubs to release them on the said weekend. In the build-up to the game, Selolwane would host dinner dance and some motivational shows for school kids.
