Shaw signs new deal with Saints
Southampton's teenage star Luke Shaw ended speculation over his future by signing a new five-year contract with the Premier League club on Friday.
Shaw enjoyed a breakthrough season last term which earned the defender widespread praise and a call-up to the England Under-21 squad for the European Championships, although injury ruled him out of the tournament.
The left-back, who has made 29 first-team appearances, was linked with several bigger clubs including Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.
But Southampton marked Shaw's 18th birthday on Friday by announcing he had agreed terms on an improved deal keeping him at St Mary's for the immediate future at least.
"I'm very pleased to have finally signed it," Shaw told his club's official website.
"I committed myself back in January, and I'm glad everything has been sorted out.
"I've been getting a lot of questions about my future, but all of the Saints fans will have known that I committed my future in January.
"I've been here since I was eight and I've loved every single moment of it. I want to stay at this club, and signing this contract means I'm here for another five years."
