Potts leaves hospital after concussion

West Ham defender Daniel Potts was discharged from hospital on Thursday after being knocked unconscious during his side's 5-1 defeat at Arsenal.

Potts, who had come on as a second half substitute, suffered the concussion following a heavy fall after an accidental clash of heads with Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna during the Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old was stretchered off with his neck in a brace and spent Wednesday night in hospital after failing to correctly answer questions from West Ham's doctor immediately after the injury.

Potts underwent further scans and tests on Thursday and they came back positively, allowing him to return home later in the day.

Potts has expressed his gratitude for the messages of support he has received and will undergo a period of rest before being allowed to resume light training in the gym.

Fifa president Sepp Blatter had earlier expressed his backing for Potts, writing on Twitter: "Best wishes and quick recovery to @DanPotts03. Concussion in football is a big issue that Fifa is taking very seriously."
