Spurs' Assou-Ekotto returns to training

Cameroon international Benoit Assou-Ekotto has returned to training with Tottenham after three months on the sidelines with a knee injury.

The dreadlocked left-back has been first choice at his position with the North London club over the past four seasons but has only made three apearances during the ongoing campaign after the problem flared up in September.

The enigmatic 28-year-old raised hopes of a return to first team action when he trained with the team on Wednesday:

"Training with the team today !!! I hope I'll remember the name of every one LOL." he tweeted.

Manager Andre Villas-Boas is expected to confirm whether Assou-Ekotto will be available for Sunday's Premier League game against Swansea later this week.

The Portuguese could also have another long-term injury victim - Scott Parker - available for the clash at White Hart Lane as the England international has almost completed his recovery from a long-standing Achilles injury picked up in the summer.

The 32-year-old, who won the club's player of the year award last season, has played for the reserves and the under-21's in the last seven days and is close to a return to Premier League action.

Tottenham are currently fifth in the top flight and 13 points behind leaders Manchester United.
