Friedel's record run over
Brad Friedel's record run of 310 consecutive Premier League starts ended on Sunday when Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas selected Hugo Lloris ahead of the American goalkeeper for Aston Villa's visit to White Hart Lane.
Villas-Boas had stuck with the 41-year-old Friedel for several weeks despite the £8 million arrival of France international Lloris from Lyon on transfer deadline day in August.
But Lloris, who had only played for Spurs in the Europa League before Sunday, was finally given the chance to start a Premier League match, in the process bringing down the curtain on Friedel's epic appearance streak which began in 2004 while he was playing for Blackburn.
