Morrison signs new Albion deal

West Bromwich Albion midfielder James Morrison signed a new four-year contract with the Premier League club on Friday.

Scotland international Morrison joined Albion from Middlesbrough five years ago and he is now tied to the Hawthorns outfit until 2016 after agreeing his improved deal.

Morrison had two years left on his previous contract, but Albion boss Steve Clarke was keen to ensure he was rewarded for playing a major role in establishing the club in the Premier League.

"After strengthening the squad during the transfer window, it's equally important to hold on to your best players," Clarke said on Friday.

"I'm delighted James has signed a new deal and the new contract is fair reward for his hard work and efforts.

"He's been at Albion for a number of years now and has always been one of the key players.

"This is a good message to send to the rest of the squad, that if you do well and keep improving you will be rewarded.

"It's also a big coup for the club because I'm sure that if James was on the market, there'd be a few clubs interested in him."
