Bafana climb up Fifa rankings

South Africa have climbed 25 places to 60th in the latest Fifa world rankings, released on Thursday, after reaching the quarterfinals of this month's Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Bafana Bafana, who were eliminated on penalties against Mali in the last eight stage of the continental competition, also moved 12 positions to settle in 10th place among African countries.

It is South Africa's highest ranking since March 2012.

Afcon champions Nigeria climbed 22 spots to 30th overall, while quarterfinalists Ivory Coast remained top of the African table, in 12th position overall.

World champions Spain retained top spot in the global list.
