Six subs for tonight’s Cape Town friendly

Both Bafana Bafana and Norway will be allowed to play six substitutes in their friendly international at the Cape Town Stadium tonight, South Africa coach Gordon Igesund confirmed.

This is standard practice now for all international matches and means the match result will count towards the Fifa rankings.

Some of the recent Nations Cup warm-up matches, however, have seen sides make wholesale changes, like Zambia, who played an entirely new line-up in the second half on Sunday when they were beaten 2-0 by Angola at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto.

The match, however, has been recognised by Fifa on their website, which is a surprise because previously world football’s governing body said all international where seven or more substitutes are used will not be counted as internationals because this turns it from a competitive match into a training affair.
