Sascoc watching corruption probe

South Africa's Olympic governing body says it is monitoring an investigation into football match-fixing allegations.

The SA Football Association (Safa) suspended its president, Kirsten Nematandani, and four senior administrators on Monday after the release of a Fifa report on warm-up matches ahead of the 2010 World Cup.

The SA Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) said on Friday that Nematandani had been in contact with Sascoc president Gideon Sam before he was placed on voluntary leave.

While Sascoc would monitor progress of the investigation, the organisation's CEO, Tubby Reddy, said it would not be directly involved at this stage.

"The agreement between president Sam and Safa was that this was a football issue between Safa and Fifa, and not a prudent time for Sascoc to become involved with at that particular time," Reddy said.

Fifa handed over a report last week on Bafana Bafana's warm-up matches ahead of the World Cup, hosted by South Africa.

Safa said a commission of enquiry, headed by a retired judge, would be set up to investigate the matter.
