Good day for SA stars in Sweden
It was a significant day in Sweden for South African stars based there on Monday as Bradley Ralani netted his second goal of the season and Tokelo Rantie’s Malmo kept their place at the top of the Swedish League.
Malmo were not in action, but Elfsborg completed their game in hand on the leaders which resulted in a 2-0 win over Gefle.
That leaves both sides on 55 points with a +18 goal-difference, though Malmo are ahead on goals-scored having netted 48 this season to the 44 of Elfsborg.
Both sides have two games remaining, Malmo host second-bottom Örebro on Thursday and finish their season with a difficult away trip to AIK Stockholm on Sunday.
Elfsborg are at mid-table Mjallby on Thursday and finish off at home to another mid-table side, Åtvidaberg, on Sunday.
Should Rantie’s Malmo complete the championship win, he will emulate compatriot May Mahlangu, who won the title with Helsingborg last season.
Meanwhile, Ralani scored for Landskrona in their 3-2 win over Jönköpings Södra to move into sixth-place with one game remaining. They face third-place Halmstad on Saturday and could finish as high as fifth with a win.
