Keet rests as club begins preseason
Belgian club KV Kortrijk have return from their holidays for pre-season training but because of his recent Bafana Bafana call-up, Darren Keet will be given time off before having to return to Europe.
The club, who were cup runners-up last season, started their pre-season training under coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck on Sunday, just over a month before their first league match on July 28 at home to champions Anderlecht.
But Keet, who has been a back-up goalkeeper for Bafana Bafana over the past three weeks, was not present because of international duty.
He had been with the Bafana Bafana squad since May 20 but did not get a chance for his first cap in the World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia, Botswana and the win over Gabon in Nelspruit on Friday.
It will be the second season in Belgium for Keet, who played in the cup final run but was not first choice in the league. He played a total of 16 games in his debut campaign.
Keet, who turns 23 in August, has a four–year contract with the Belgian club, who are hoping he will develop and make them a profit on the R2,5-million fee they paid Wits for his services last season.
