Ngongca punished by Belgian FA

Bafana Bafana and Genk right-back Anele Ngcongca has been given a one-match suspension, suspended until the end of the season, after being found guilty of foul play.

Video evidence was used by the Belgian Football Association to find Ngcongca guilty after he landed a blow on Mechelen’s Alessandro Cordaro during a game late last month.

The match officials did not notice Ngcongca’s actions at the time, but did yellow card Cordaro after he reacted by kicking the Bafana star.

It means now that should he be suspended again this campaign for either an accumulation of yellow cards or a red, one game will be added to his punishment.

It is not the first nasty incident involving Ngcongca this season. He received a red card for violent conduct against Partizan Belgrade in the preliminary stages of the Uefa Champions League.

Otherwise his discipline has been good, collecting just four yellow cards in 25 competitive matches since.

Champions Genk have been having a dismal season in the Belgian Jupiler League and currently sit sixth, 16 points behind leaders Anderlecht, who beat them 4-2 at the weekend.
