SA stars frozen out of action
The Belgian Cup semifinal, second leg, between Lierse and Lokeren was postponed on Tuesday night after snow and ice made the field unplayable.
Referee Jerome Efong Nzolo called-off the encounter after finding the conditions too dangerous for the players.
"There is ice on the field, the ground is as hard as concrete and some parts look like a skating rink. I slipped when I walked about," he told Sporza.
It means that South Africans Daylon Claasen, Siboniso Gaxa and Lance Davids (all Lierse), as well as Ayanda Patosi (Lokeren) will have to wait until February 22 to see if they can make history and win a place in the Belgian Cup final.
Lokeren lead the tie 1-0 from the first leg but Lierse will be confident of overturning that at home.
It now remains to be seen whether Wednesday’s second semifinals between Kortrijk and Mons will go ahead.
South African Under-23 goalkeeper Darren Keet is likely to line-up for Kortrijk, who lead 2-1 from the first leg and should wrap-up the tie at home to reach their first-ever Belgian Cup final.
