France will take on Spain in a pre-World Cup friendly game at the Stade de France here on March 3, 2010, the French Football Federation announced on Tuesday.

Both teams will by then know whether or not they have qualified for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

European champions Spain are odds-on to qualify as they currently lead their qualifying group by six points from Bosnia-Herzegovina, but France are eight points behind Group Seven leaders Serbia, albeit with two games in hand.

Only the teams finishing top of each European group at the end of qualifying are guaranteed a World Cup berth, with the eight best runners-up entering the play-offs.

The European neighbours' last competitive meeting came at the last-16 stage of the 2006 World Cup in Germany, when France, 1998 world champions and runners-up to Italy in 2006, prevailed 3-1.

A late goal from left-back Joan Capdevila saw Spain win 1-0 in the last friendly match between the sides in Malaga in February 2008.
