Tunisian giants Etoile face CAF music

Tunisian giants Etoile du Sahel could be heavily censored or fined by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for their unacceptable behaviour when they lost 1-0 to TP Mazembe in a hotly contested final group B match of the African Champions League at the Kenya Stadium in Lubumbashi on Sunday.

A contingent of Tunisian officials and players chased Togolese referee Kokou Djaoupe around the field at the end of the match and cornered him near the tunnel where he was rescued by the police.

The Tunisians were clearly unhappy about the referee’s handling of the match in which they claimed he was biased against them and angrily threatened to sort him out as the poor chap cowered in a corner shaking with fright at the aggressive Tunisians.

Eventually the police escorted Djaoupe and his assistants out of the field and into his dressing room with the Tunisian entourage still shouting obscenities at him but unable to lay their hands on him.

The 1-0 defeat condemned Etoile du Sahel to third position while TP Mazembe topped their group and qualified for the semifinals of the African Champions League where they will meet Sudan’s Al Hilal for a shot at the US$1.5-m first prize.
