SuperSport uncovers future stars in Lagos

Action in youth football will move to Lagos, Nigeria, as four youth teams compete for the Lagos Youth Cup Tournament inside the Teslim Balogun Stadium from 4pm on Tuesday, live on SuperSport Select.

FC Utrecht of Holland, SuperSport United of South Africa, Liberty Football Club of Ghana and hosts Lagos United are the teams to battle for the invitational tourney.

The three visiting teams -- FC Utretch, SuperSport United and Liberty FC -- are expected to arrive on Sunday, according to Godson Uti, chairman of the organising committee. Match-day one will get underway with Lagos United confronting Liberty FC, while SuperSport United and FC Utrecht will take to the field later from 6.45pm, live on SuperSport.

On August 5, Liberty FC will face FC Utrecht and Lagos United will play Supersport United. Lagos United and FC Utrecht will kick off match-day three and SuperSport United and Liberty FC will round off the tournament.

Uti explained that the tournament is aimed at helping Nigeria produce true Under-17 players for future international competitions.

“The major objective of this tournament is to help expose and groom real Under-17 footballers, which will help our national team selectors have the chance to watch existing budding talents in Lagos State,” Uti said.

Monday Odigie, head coach of Nigeria’s Under-17s, is one of those expected to be in the stands when the competition begins.

As one of the champions of developing the game from the grassroots level, the World of Champions will give full and live coverage to all six games of the invitational youth tournament in Lagos.
