Bad news could bring good news for Morris

The bad news regarding difficulties in obtaining a work permit to continue his soccer career with Spanish club Racing Santander could prove good news for estranged Bafana Bafana central defender Nasief Morris.

Having lost his place in the Bafana squad following differences with former coach Joel Santana last year, the long-serving Morris's chances of making a comeback to national duty before the World Cup appeared bleak indeed.

However, with present Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira on Tuesday continuing to be confronted by a brick wall of resistance in most cases as he attempts to secure the release of foreign-based South African players for his pre-World Cup training camp in Brazil in March, the door could be opened for Morris to make a comeback in the prevailing circumstances.

The blow of not being able to rejoin Racing Santander could prove a blessing in disguise for Morris if Parreira elects to bury the hatchet and evaluate him afresh as a World Cup candidate by including the experienced former Bafana player in the Brazil-bound squad.

Morris's business management has already broached the idea of their client heading for Brazil instead of Spain -- with the stroke of bad luck that has currently placed Morris on the sideline champing at the bit for action ironically proving a blessing in disguise for the cool and composed Morris and his prospects of World Cup selection.
