Portsmouth remained rooted to the bottom of the English Premier League table after a goalless draw away to fellow strugglers Hull City at the KC Stadium on Saturday.

A point apiece did little for either side's efforts to climb out of the relegation zone.

Portsmouth, who've won just once in the top flight this season, collected league points for only the second time this campaign and might have had all three had not Hull goalkeeper Boaz Myhill saved Aruna Dindane's shot and also denied Hassan Yebda.

Pompey could have gone ahead as early as the first minute but former Watford striker Tommy Smith, yet to score in the Premier League, shot wide after a mistake by Hull's Kamil Zayatte.

But the match soon descended into a low grade contest, with neither side able to produced much in the way of class and quality as chances were restricted to long-range shots.

The game improved in the second- alf, with Portsmouth goalkeeper David James needing to be quick off his line to deny Geovanni after the Brazilian was played in by Seyi Olofinjana.

Myhill then made a superb block to deny Dindane, whose effort from the rebound hit Younes Kaboul.

And Myhill kept the hosts in the match when, following a looping cross from Kevin-Prince Boateng, he made a one-handed save from Yebda's miscued shot.

Pompey's Jamie O'Hara went close with a free-kick in the closing stages but there was to be no late winner for the south coast side.
