Atudo hoping to retain place

Harambee Stars and Azam defender Jockins Atudo is keen to impress new Stars coach Adel Amrouche.

Atudo has been a mainstay in the Stars defence under the last two coaches, Henri Michel and interim coach James Nandwa, and has established himself as one of the best defenders in the national team.

Many would guarantee him a place in the team even with a new coach in town, but he does not see it that way. He feels that he has to fight for his place once again, just like the rest of the players.

“We have a new coach which is good, as it means we are hoping to improve. He has been around for a while, so I trust we will be in good hands,” he said.

“A new coach means a new way of thinking and maybe even different tactics. We are used to it though, it is a part of football to have new coaches and even players. I will have to fight for my place in the team like I always do and I hope that I can retain it. The main thing is to ensure that the rise in fortunes continues and we get even better, he said.

The next important match for the Stars will be in Lagos Nigeria, where they will play the reigning Afcon champs in a World Cup qualifier next month and Atudo acknowledges the size of the task at hand.

“It will be very difficult to play there. Even before they became champions, it would have been difficult but we will hope for the best. “They are a good side but we believe in our abilities and will give our highest effort to ensure we do well,” he said.
