Tusker set for weekend friendlies

Kenyan Premier League champions Tusker FC are scheduled to play two friendly matches over the weekend as part of their preparations for the Caf Champions League match against Seychelles side St. Michel United on 16 February.

The team will on take on Nairobi Stima on Saturday and then play K.R.A FC the next day. Nairobi Stima and K.R.A feature in the Division One Zone B league, and the matches will be played at Tusker’s training ground, KBL Grounds, Ruaraka.

Confirming this, Tusker team manager Willis Waliaula said these matches will be used to fine tune the team ahead of the CAF match against St. Michel United.

“We will take these games very seriously as they will help us identify the loopholes we need to fix before we leave for Seychelles,” Waliaula said.

“Division One teams are very strong and I know Nairobi Stima and KRA will give us good competition,” he added.

Tusker FC has had good pre-season preparations, finishing runners-up in the Mapinduzi tournament held in Zanzibar and also recently won friendlies against Nzoia United (Division One Zone A) and AFC Leopards.

However, Waliaula says the team is not taking it easy despite the good pre-season and will continue working hard.

“We are the reigning champions so every team in the KPL is working hard to beat us, so we cannot afford to rest – we have to up our game. We are also in the CAF Champions League so that calls for extra preparations,” he concluded.
