Leopards beat Azam in friendly

Kenyan Premier League side AFC Leopards handed Tanzanian team Azam a 2-0 beating in a friendly match played on Saturday at Nyayo National Stadium.

Leopards went ahead in the 14th minute, with Paul Were finding the back of the net, after a creative interplay with Mike Baraza and Victor Ochieng.

In the 20th minute, Azam were awarded a penalty which former Tusker FC defender Jockins Atudo stepped up to take. It proved to be AFC’s day though as newly-signed keeper Martin Musalia dove the right way to keep Leopards 1-0 up at half-time.

Ten minutes into the second half, Mike Baraza connected with a pass from Victor Seda, who had come in as a substitute for Ochieng, to give the Leopards a two-goal advantage.

Azam pulled one back in the last minute of regulation time through Samih Nuhu, who sent home another awarded penalty. Nuhu’s goal was to be Azam’s consolation for the day though as they were unable to find a late goal.

Azam are in Kenya for a series of friendlies that will see them play Sofapaka FC on Sunday 20 January and KCB on Tuesday 22 January.
