Chippa to pay R3m for wayward Isaacs

Chippa United are to pay R3-million to sign Erwin Isaacs from BidVest Wits when the transfer window opens up on January 1.

But the Johannesburg club say they have not yet signed off on the deal despite the announcement of the move by the struggling ‘Chilli Boys’.

It will end a miserable six months for Isaacs in Johannesburg, where he has fallen out with coach Antonio Lopez and played in just five games – the last at the end of September.

Isaacs made only two starts and came on as a substitute three times. Ironically his only goal for Wits was scored against Chippa United in Cape Town in mid-September.

Wits bought Isaacs from relegated Santos in July but the 25-year-old struggled to settle in Johannesburg. Just months ago he admitted he faked injury to avoid playing away matches because he did not like traveling from Cape Town.

He also had a long history of playing truant at Santos and run-ins with the club owner Goolam Allie over his contract.

But Chippa United are confident he can do the business for them as they seek to stay up in the Absa Premiership.

“I know what goes on in his mind and I think he’s the sort of player that can help us,” coach Farouk Abrahams told the Cape Times on Wednesday.

Chippa last week signed the Namibia international striker Wilko Risser in their continuing bid to strengthen their side to stay up in the top flight.

“We are looking to plug some of the gaps to give ourselves a fighting chance.” Abrahams added.
