Rave reports on Keet in Belgian press

South African goalkeeper Darren Keet tops the list of players in the Belgian league with the best match-by-match rating this season, according to the latest edition of the country’s Voetbal Magazine, issued on Wednesday.

Keet has an average mark of 6,44 out of 10 from the 16 matches he has played this league season with compatriot Ayanda Patosi in third place in the standings.

Keet, who plays at KV Kortrijk, leads Patosi from Lokeren in the total points standings as well with 103 to 102 in one-two double triumph for South Africa.

Keet was named the fifth best player of the week in the magazine’s poll of performances from the weekend, when he saved a penalty for Kortrijk away against league leaders Anderlecht.

“Keet sat 90 minutes on the bench last week for Bafana Bafana but showed on his visit to Anderlecht why he is regarded as South Africa’s top goalkeeping talent. His speciality: saving penalties,” wrote the magazine.

In the same issue, Belgian television analyst and former professional Wim de Connick said of the former Wits goalkeeper: “Keet has played well all season but on Sunday against Anderlecht, he was really good. What strikes me is his determination, his speed and his reactions. There must be really good goalkeepers in South Africa if he can’t make the national team.”
