Akoh, Asuquo in for Sand Eagles

The pair of Isah Akoh and Philip Asuquo have been called up to the Nigerian beach soccer national team, the Super Sand Eagles for the first time.

Akoh finished as the leading scorer at the 2012 Federation Cup with Nigeria National League (NNL) side, Prime FC, which ended up in third place behind champions, Heartland and runners-up, Lobi Stars.

3SC's Asuquo also earned a call alongside five other players from the Nigeria Premier League (NPL).

Super Sand Eagles' head coach, Adamu Audu Ejor, told supersport.com on Friday over telephone that Gambo Mohammed (Kano Pillars), Ambrose Onyeama (Enugu Rangers), Danladi Isah (Heartland), Kabiru Umar (Heartland) and David Amanyi (3SC) are the other new addition to his squad.

"I've called up 18 players including seven new ones. The new players are Isah Akoh (Prime FC), Philip Asuquo (3SC), Gambo Mohammed (Kano Pillars), Ambrose Onyeama (Enugu Rangers), Danladi Isah (Heartland), Kabiru Umar (Heartland) and David Amanyi (3SC). The others make up the same old players we've had over the years to provide experience. The like of Isiaka Olawale and Bartholomew Ibenegbu and co," revealed Ejor.

The Nigerians are preparing for next month's Samsung Intercontinental Tournament billed to hold in Dubai, UAE and the Copa Lagos in December.

The camp of the Sand Eagles will open in Lagos on October 10 in preparation for both tournaments.
