Platinum Stars duo in Malawi squad
Platinum Stars midfielder Robert Ng’ambi has been called up for Malawi ahead of their 2014 Fifa World Cup and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next month.
Also in the squad is striker Chiukepo Msowoya, who was on loan at Dikwena from Orlando Pirates for the second half of last season.
The pair are two of 10 players to come from clubs in South Africa, two from Mozambique and one each from Angola and Spain.
Coach Kinnah Phiri takes his squad to Tanzania this weekend for two warm-up games before they meet Kenya and Nigeria in the World Cup qualifiers and Chad in the African Nations Cup preliminaries on the first three weekends of June.
Atletico Madrid’s Robin Ngalanda has already returned home for preparations along with James Sangala, who is in Angola. Also named in the squad are Mozambican-based and Zicco Mkhanda and Simplex Nthara.
From South African clubs, Phiri has called up Jimmy Zakazaka (African Warriors), Moses Chavula (AmaZulu), Dave Banda and Harry Nyirenda (Black Leopards), Msowoya and Ng’ambi (Platinum Stars) and Atusaye Nyodo (SuperSport).
Tawonga Chimodzi and Peter Mponda of Santos and the dribbling winger Peter Wadabwa of Thanda Royal Zulu are also called up but might not travel for warm-up games in Tanzania this weekend because of their clubs’ involvement in the South African promotion-relegation play-offs.
