Ali bomb sees Pillars to the top

Rabiu Ali scored the winner for Kano Pillars in their 2-1 win against Rising Stars at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on Matchday 22 of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL)

Ali’s strike gave Kano Pillars maximum points and extended their lead at the top of the NPL to two points as Enugu Rangers drew 1-1 against Wikki Tourists at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi.

Kano Pillars now have 36 points and two better than the chasing pack of Enugu Rangers, Enyimba and Dolphins in second, third and fourth positions respectively.

Rangers would feel hard done by as Wikki’s equaliser arrived deep into added time through what officials of the Flying Antelopes described as a controversial penalty converted by Mustapha Ibrahim.

The champions, Dolphins, third before kick-off lost ground as they drew 1-1 against Kaduna United at the Kaduna Township Stadium.

The home side took the lead through Emma Ambrose's goal midway through the first half only for the Olewezi Johnson to equalise for the champions in added time.

Kaduna United had a chance to win it deep into added time but missed a penalty.

Former champions, Enyimba had strikes from Babington Fabiyi and Henry Uche to thank for their 2-0 victory over Kwara United at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.

In other results on Wednesday, Warri Wolves drew 0-0 against newly-promoted ABS FC at the Ilorin Township Stadium while 3SC lost 1-2 to Gombe United at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe.

Jigawa Golden Stars defeated Sharks 2-1 at the Hadejia Township Stadium while Akwa United defeated Lobi Stars 2-1 at the Uyo Township Stadium.
