Gervinho hails countryman Wilfried Bony



Arsenal winger Gervinho on Tuesday marked up the growing approval of his compatriot Wilfried Bony of Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem, saying the centre forward is currently one of the best in Europe.

The 24-year-old leads the Dutch Eredivisie top scorer table with 27 goals out of 28 games, making him also the highest African goal scorer in Europe at the moment.

“Wilfried is hot at the moment. He is confident both at club and national team,” Gervinho said. “He has shown his talent and he is consistent. I can say he is currently one of the best centre forwards in Europe.

“I can see why he’s pulling interest from a number of top sides in Europe. Wilfried knows how to hit goals and he nets them even with the smallest chances, and I wish he lands a deal with a great club in the summer,” he said.

Bony, who will likely step into the shoes of Didier Drogba in Ivory Coast, is under the radar of Premier League sides West Ham, Newcastle, Chelsea and Liverpool. However, he says nothing concrete is underway, even if he thinks moving to Upton Park in the summer is a great possibility.

The £12 million-rated (R167m) striker joined the Vitas in 2011 from Sparta Prague, the most successful club in the Czech Republic, and has notched up 42 goals so far in the Eredivisie.
