Tunisian player handed life ban
.A Tunisian footballer Charfeddine Belhaj of Stade Gabesien in the domestic Ligue 1 has been banned for life from all sporting activities in the North African country for assaulting a police officer
The Professional League organiser LNFP, which pronounced the verdict on Thursday, said the player was found guilty of attacking a policeman during a football match between his side and El Gawafel on Saturday.
Belhaj was also fined 2500 Tunisian dinar (R 14,250, $1,588), however, he can lodge an appeal within two weeks, according to the LNFP spokesperson Hamed Maghrebi.
Owing to recent violence during the Ligue 1 games, the local authorities frequently deploy a large number of security operatives at the stadiums.
