TP Mazembe drop Daniel Nii Adjei



DR Congo giants TP Mazembe did not include last season’s Glo Premier League Best Player and former Asante Kotoko midfielder Daniel Nii Adjei in its list of 26 players expected to feature for the club in the 2013 CAF Champions League competition.

The club successfully met CAF’s January 15 midnight deadline to submit its final squad of 30 for the competition whose preliminary round starts in February.

In Mazembe’s 26-man squad are eight new recruits – four of which are Ghanaians but conspicuously missing is the fifth man Daniel Nii Adjei who signed a two-year deal with the Ravens in November last year.

Yaw Frimpong, Richard Kissi Boateng, Gladson Awako and Solomon Asante – all who have recently signed five year deals each with the Ravens will feature for their new club in Africa this season.

What is unclear is the reason for Nii Adjei’s exclusion.

But TP Mazembe could still make additions as CAF allows clubs to pay a $1000 fine to register a player outside the deadline between now and January 31.

If not, Nii Adjei will have to bid time and impress Mazembe coach Lamine Ndiaye to be added in the squad later on should the club make it into the ‘money zone’ of the competition.

TP Mazembe’s 26-man squad:

Goalkeepers (3): Robert Kidiaba, Aimé BAKULA Ley MATAMPI

Defenders (8): Eric NKULUKUTA Jean KASUSULA Joel KIMWAKI, Hervé NDONGA, HICHANI HIMONDE, Yaw FRIMPONG Richard KISSI BOATENG, Boubacar Diarra.

Midfielders (7): Nathan Sinkala, Treasury MPUTU, Rainford Kalaba, Gladson AWAKO, Saddam Ilongo, Given Singuluma, Mike MUTYABA.

Forwards (8): Patou Kabangu, SAKUWAHA Jonas, Aly Samatta, Solomon ASANTE, Eric Bokanga, Thomas Ulimwengu, Cheibane TRAORE, Alou BAGAYOKO.
