Lone Star axe Smith

Liberia national team coach Kaetu Smith has been dismissed, seven months after he was appointed to help the Lone Stars return to continental scene.

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) said the coach and his assistants were fired following poor results across their five competitive matches.

“Someone has to take responsibility for the team's dismal showing and in this case, it is the coach. We also understand that the players lack commitment, patriotism and emotion for their country,” said Musa Bility, the LFA president.

Bility also announced that Liberian soccer legend George Weah had been tasked with finding a new coach for the team ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying set for next March.

Liberia are at the bottom of Group J with two points and will play their next game against Uganda at home.
