Togo name list with no Adebayor

Togo coach Didier Six has published a provisional 22-man squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, without captain Emmanuel Adebayor and two other key players of the Sparrow Hawks.

The Tottenham striker announced last month he was suspending his international career in the wake of a match bonus row with the football federation.

Kossi Agassa, goalkeeper of French Ligue 1 side Reim and Alaixys Romao of FC Lorient followed suit after Adebayor’s withdrawal, in solidarity with the former Manchester City player’s stand. Both players were also dropped by the French coach.

The squad will play a friendly match against Oman on December 29 as warm up ahead of January’s showpiece.

Togo Prime Minister Seleagodji Ahoomey-Zunu began mediation between the FA and Adebayor two weeks ago, to have the striker back in the fold before the tournament but there have been no results.

Togo will open their campaign against Ivory Coast in Group D on January 22 in Rustenburg.
