Fifa clears Ghoulam for Foxes
FIFA has cleared French-born Faouzi Ghoulam to play for Algeria national team, officials said in Algiers on Thursday.
The 21-year-old Saint Etienne left back, who has represented the French Under-21 national team, was presented to the local press during a reunion cocktail organised by the FA.
He will likely make the Fennec Foxes list for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations set for publication later this month, according to coach Vahid Halilhodzic.
Ghoulam is the second French-born footballer of Algerian descent to switch allegiance in favour of the North African country this year after Parma striker Ishak Belfodil.
Algeria will be confronting Tunisia, Togo and Ivory Coast in Group D during the preliminary stage of next year’s showpiece.
