DRC axes games

The Democratic Republic of Congo announced on Thursday it had cancelled scheduled international friendly matches against Ivory Coast and South Africa, after both teams said they were pulling out of the arrangements.

The Ivorian football federation said it preferred meeting a North African country while the South Africans said they were concluding arrangements with Malawi, Algeria or Norway, according to a statement from the DR Congo football federation.

The Leopards’ French coach Claude Le Roy will leave with 25 players for Port Elizabeth, South Africa on December 10 to begin fine tuning ahead of January’s tournament.

DR Congo will open their campaign against Ghana in Group B on January 20 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
