Anouma challenges Hayatou

Fifa executive committee member Jacques Anouma has challenged Issa Hayatou for the leadership of African football, amid rising tension in the continent's governing body.

The Ivory Coast football federation says it nominated Anouma to be Confederation of African Football president before a December 9 deadline for candidates.

Anouma seeks to stand in the March 10 election despite explicitly being barred by a new rule steered through by Hayatou in September.

Hayatou, a Fifa vice president, has led CAF for 25 years and got member nations to decide that only voting members of its board could be candidates. Anouma is a non-voting member.

Hayatou's rule is being challenged by Liberia at the Court of Arbitration for Sport on legal technicalities.

The court aims to give an interim ruling on Monday.
