Obame joins Boca Juniors



Gabonese midfielder Franck Engonga Obame has been recruited by Argentine top flights Boca Juniors, three months after the 19-year-old put up a remarkable performance at the London Olympic football tournament.

Although Obame is yet to make his way to the team’s first eleven, coach Julio Cesar Falcioni says the player has great potential and has been arousing curiosity amongst local fans that are not used to seeing African players in the Argentine Primera Division.

Cameroonian Alphonse Tchami remains the only African to have played and scored in the league’s Superclasico between his side Boca Junior and River Plate, during the 1990s.

Obame was a member of the squad that won the 2011 CAF U-23 Championship, Gabon’s first continental title.
