BBC African Footballer of the Year nominees
The five candidates for this year’s BBC African Footballer award were released on Thursday by the British broadcaster.
The shortlist consists of Senegal’s Demba Ba of Newcastle United, Morocco international Younes Belhanda, who plays for French Ligue 1 champions Montpellier, Zambian Christopher Katongo and Ivorian pair Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure.
Amongst the five contenders only Drogba has won the award once in 2009.
The successor of Ghana’s Andre Ayew will be announced on December 17 after an online vote.
