Caf names Ivorian for ACL semi
CAF has designated Ivorian referee Desire Doue Noumandiez to preside over the Champions League first leg semifinal between defending champions Esperance Tunis and 2009, 2010 winners TP Mazembe.
The 42-year-old official was named best African referee in 2011 and has taken charge of top encounters including the final of the 2009 African Nations Championship and the return leg of the 2011 CAF Champions League final.
The Blood and Gold topped Group A with nine points to bag their ticket for the semis while the Corbeaux finished second in Group B to join the last four, setting the stage for a repeat of the 2010 final between both sides, carried off by the Congolese on a 6-1 aggregate.
South African Daniel Bennett will officiate the first leg of the second semifinal between Nigeria’s Sunshine Stars and Al Ahly of Egypt, according to CAF.
The first fixtures will take place in the first weekend of October, while the return leg games will hold two weeks later.
