Gerets picks Lions over Marseille
Morocco coach Eric Gerets says he has declined an offer from his former club Marseille, which is seeking a new manager at the end of a dismay season.
The 58-year-old Belgian was coach of the Les Phocéens between 2007 and 2009, and was replaced by current coach and former world champion Didier Deschamps.
Gerets said things had gone so bad at Marseille and that he could not turn back to work there, that his focus was on the Lions of the Atlas, whom he has led since 2010.
Morocco are in Group C of the 2014 World Cup qualifying alongside Gambia, Tanzania and leaders Ivory Coast.
The North African team is currently participating in the 2012 Arab Nations Cup holding in Saudi Arabia. They defeated Bahrain 4-0 in their opener, drew Libya goalless in the second game and will play Yemen on June 29.
