Former Zim boss arrested - report

Former Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) chief executive Henrietta Rushwaya was arrested on Thursday on charges of corruption, bribery and match-fixing, state television said.

The broadcaster said she was in custody at Avondale police station in an upscale Harare suburb.

Rushwaya sent the national team to play unsanctioned friendlies in Thailand and Malaysia two years ago and a betting syndicate allegedly fixed the results.

She was fired two years ago.

Her arrest comes days after Zimbabwe football authorities suspended from the national team 82 players implicated in a match-fixing scam in Asia.

Last August, ZIFA suspended three board members, including a former national team player and a former referee, over the scandal.

Zimbabwe are also being probed by world football governing body Fifa.

Fifa president Sepp Blatter warned during a visit to Harare last year that players and officials found guilty in the ongoing probe would face life bans.
