Warda inconsolable after Egypt loss

For midfielder Amr Warda, Sunday's Afcon final loss to Cameroon hurt in places he did not think possible.

The 23-year old spoke after the 2-1 loss, following a superb turnaround by the central Africans after Egypt had dominated the first half. “Thank God for everything. We tried to win the cup for our fans but we were not successful,” Warda told beIN Sports, in bags of tears.

“The players did the best they could during the tournament but we did not win the cup at the end of the day,” he went on, noting how much the nation would have wanted an eighth title after seven years out. “Fans should not feel sad after the loss."

"We are a new generation and we’ll do our best in the next period in the World Cup qualifiers,” the Greek-based player noted.
