We must stick together - Mweene

Zambian goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene wants to ensure there is no division in the Chipolopolo camp after a first round exit at the 2013 Afcon for the defending champions.

The southern African side managed only two goals as they drew all three of their Group C matches to finish behind Burkina Faso and Nigeria.

The Zambians took over an hour to emerge from the change-rooms after Tuesday night’s 0-0 stalemate with the Stallions, but Mweene says that team spirit remains in tact.

“We can’t point fingers - it wasn’t meant to be. We just have to accept things and be thankful for what God has given us.

“Its time to encourage each other, this is the time we need each other most, with the qualifiers.”

Mweene insists that Chipolopolo gave everything they had to try and make it through to the next round as they looked to defend the title they won in 2012.

“We tried our best but in even if we played two hours we would not have scored.

“Because we camped in Burkina’s half, especially in the second half.

“We will just have to go regroup, we have the World Cup qualifiers and we’ll just have to come back. The most important thing when you fall is how you get up.”
