Cash infusion for the Mena
The Niger football federation (Fenifoot) on Friday said it had gathered up to $ 4 million (R 35 m) for its national team ahead of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
The government contributed half of that amount with the rest coming from local firms and individuals, the body said.
The Mena began preparations for their second Africa Cup of Nations in the country’s capital last month and has played four friendly matches since then, losing 3-0 to Morocco, 1-0 to Ethiopia and beating Togo 3-1 while drawing goalless against Burkina Faso.
Niger will play their first group match against Mali on January 20 in Port Elizabeth before facing the other two members of Group B Ghana and DR Congo.
