Nigeria gives Ameobi last chance

Nigeria are willing to hand Newcastle United forward, Shola Ameobi a last chance to join up for their pre-Afcon camping.

Ameobi was named in Nigeria's provisional squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations by head coach Stephen Keshi but has refused to answer telephone calls from the manager since December.

Now Keshi has said he is willing to leave the door open for the 31-year-old striker to join the team's Afcon camp in Faro, Portugal till Saturday.

The Nigerian manager has revealed that he is yet to hear a word from Ameobi as at Friday noon.

“Otherwise (without Ameobi), we go ahead with other plans for the Nations Cup, with available players on ground,”said Keshi.

However, four players joined the Nigerian camp in Faro on Friday.

The players include Celtic's Efe Ambrose, Elderson Echejile, Juwon Oshaniwa and Obiora Nwankwo.

Nigeria's Super Eagles are drawn in Afcon's Group C with African reigning champions, Zambia, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia.
