Angola, Zambia to clash in Soweto

Angola and Zambia will take on each other in an African Nations Cup warm-up match in Soweto on Saturday, playing against each other at the Dobsonville Stadium.

The two teams have been virtually on top of each other over the last week, sharing the same Johannesburg hotel, having both stated their pre-tournament just Christmas.

The two countries have hastily set together the match to replace planned fixtures they both had originally scheduled this weekend.

Angola were supposed to travel to Maputo for a friendly but Mozambique pulled out when they found they could not put together a decent side with most of their key players away on holiday.

Zambia were originally scheduled to play Swaziland where there was a clash over the availability of players between the Swazi league and its football association

Angola will likely leave out four of their overseas players who are struggling with knokcs and have skipped training at Johannesburg’s St Peter’s College over the last days.

They are the Cyprus-based trio of Gilberto, Marco Airosa and Zuela and the Turkish-based striker Djalma Campos.

Saturday’s match is one of several international friendlies scheduled on South African soil for many of the African Nations Cup finalists,

Algeria, Burkina Faso, Morocco and Niger have also set up matches in the period before the finals kicks off on January 19.
