Elephants get trim

Ivory Coast captain Didier Drogba and team mates on Saturday began fitness exercises in Abidjan ahead of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, two days after coach Sabri Lamouchi named his 23-man squad for the tournament.

The group gathered at a private gym called Institut Caloa in the country’s commercial city and began working out under the supervision of the Elephants’ fitness coach.

The Ivorian FA boss Sidy Diallo and his collaborators paid a visit to see how the outfit was preparing for January’s showpiece.

About 15 Afcon-bound players are already holidaying in Abidjan including Drogba, Lolo Igor, Ndri Koffi Romaric, Lacina Traore, Tiene Siaka and Sangare Badra Ali.

“We are taking every detail of our preparation very seriously. What we are doing now is to make sure our men are in top form first, for our groundwork and secondly, for the competition,” Lamouchi told supersport.com.

The set up will fine tune in Abu Dhabi and wrap up with a friendly match against Egypt on January 14 in the Gulf state.
