Middendorp dumps Maritzburg

Ernst Middendorp has ended his tenure at Maritzburg United with immediate effect and is on the short-list of Bloemfontein Celtic for their vacant position.

Middendorp confirmed the news on Thursday through his agent Steve Kapeluschnik.

“I would like to thank the players, management and staff at Maritzburg United, I have enjoyed my time with the club and I wish them all the best in the future,” Middendorp said in a statement.

Kapeluschnik confirmed that after spending three and a half years at the club it is time for him to move on and look for new challenges in his career.

It would appear that new challenge could be Celtic after their owner Jimmy Augousti confirmed to local media that Middendorp was one of the coaches they were looking at to replace Clinton Larsen, who resigned on Sunday.

Maritzburg have made a mix start to the new PSL season, with two wins, two draws and two defeats in their opening six games.

They were also beaten 2-0 by Platinum Stars in the Telkom Knockout first round last Sunday. This last spell was his second with the club after a previous stint between 2009 and 2011. He has also coached Kaizer Chiefs and Lamontville Golden Arrows in the PSL.
